Athlete Kylie McKenzie is fighting back against the tennis national governing body after she said it failed to implement the policies that would have prevented its coaches from allegedly using their position of power to engage in inappropriate sexual advances when training up-and-coming talent.

And attorney Ann Olivarius, the chair and senior partner of McAllister Olivarius in London, England, said the lawsuit against the United States Tennis Association Inc. is largely a roadmap of how to file this type of complaint at a time when female athletes are allegedly facing systemic sexual abuse.

“In athletics, woman are finding their voice and are standing up for themselves,” Olivarius said. “This complaint is very good at setting out a story that will resonate with a lot of people because it was not, ‘the coach grabbed her and forced sex on her.’ The complaint shows the gradual debasing and humiliation of a person.”
