The article describes the pivotal point in their legal battle: “The turning point came when Kam rang a rape crisis line and they told her about Ann Olivarius, an American lawyer based in London who had coined the term “date rape” when she was still an undergraduate.”

Kam goes on to describe their first meeting, a three-hour lunch with Dr Olivarius: “[Dr Olivarius] said she’d do what she could, but she couldn’t make any promises. She said, ‘I want you to know there’s probably zero chance anything can happen with this. There is no law.’ But she’s been our superhero ever since.”
