A solicitor who has been involved in representing Spiritan victims has described the settlements offered as “extremely disappointing.”

Dr Ann Olivarius, an international lawyer who has been working with Irish firm Pearse Mehigan Solicitors, claimed the level of compensation offered has “dropped off ” due to the high number of cases.

“In the last while, there seems to have been a downward movement, with some people who have suffered a lifetime of horror due to abuse being offered around €60,000,” she said. “In the United States, those victims would get in or around €1.8m.
