McAllister Olivarius Names Maria Mitu Head of its UK Practice

International law firm McAllister Olivarius is pleased to announce the promotion of Maria Mitu to lead its UK Practice, covering employment, M&A, licensing, IP, joint venture and partnership agreements, business immigration services, commercial disputes and commercial property.

With offices in New York and Greater London, McAllister Olivarius has an international reputation for its work in civil litigation. With Maria’s promotion the firm’s UK Practice will focus on working with business and corporate clients across a broad range of industries.

Ms. Mitu, a Romanian national dual-qualified in Romania and England and Wales, has worked on a broad range of complex commercial cases involving large European companies and has considerable experience helping these companies do business in England and vice versa. Ms. Mitu succeeds Georgina Calvert-Lee as McAllister Olivarius’ UK Practice Lead.

“I am delighted to announce that I have joined McAllister Olivarius as senior counsel and head of the firm’s UK practice,” said Ms. Mitu. “McAllister Olivarius has an unparalleled reputation in civil litigation, and I look forward to furthering our reputation in corporate and commercial matters.

We have ambitious plans for growth, and will be looking to harness the drive, ambition, and creativity of our exceptional team to deliver outstanding results to our corporate clients.”

McAllister Olivarius was founded in 1996 by civil rights pioneer Dr. Ann Olivarius. She made American legal history as a plaintiff in the landmark 1977 Title IX case Alexander v. Yale, which established for the first time that American universities have a legal obligation to work to prevent and deter sexual harassment. Today, the firm works to help people who have been treated unfairly, discriminated against, harassed, or abused, while bringing the insight and experience of its multi-national team to bear on the issues faced by business.
Ms. Mitu received her bachelor’s degree in Law and an MBA in Private Law from the University of Bucharest. She was called to the Bucharest Bar in 2001 and spent the first 12 years of her career as a litigator. She has moved to advisory work in 2012, leading the department since then. She moved to the UK in 2017 and shortly after that qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales, focusing on business immigration, corporate and commercial law, and commercial property.

Maria is also the Managing Partner of Mitu & Asociatii, a Romanian law firm based in Bucharest with a focus on commercial advice and litigation, corporate law and corporate immigration.
