Family Law Insights: What Is Resolution’s Good Divorce Week 2025? A Guide to Constructive Separation

She also works on contentious and non-contentious employment matters, and personal injury claims – including those arising in connection with historic child abuse.

What is Resolution’s Good Divorce Week?

Resolution is a national organisation of family lawyers and other professionals in England and Wales who are committed to helping people resolve family disputes constructively and amicably.

Every November, Resolution runs the Good Divorce Week campaign. This campaign encourages less confrontational approaches to divorce and separation, focusing on limiting conflict for the sake of families and children.

This year, Resolution is running Good Divorce Week in the week commencing 10 November 2025, with the theme focused on encouraging members to actively engage with their Code of Practice. The campaign also aims to raise public awareness of how families can benefit from professional support that prioritises cooperation over confrontation.

The Code of Practice

The Resolution Code of Practice is a professional standard that members are expected to follow. It sets out principles designed to promote constructive and solution-focused family law practice. Members commit to:

  • Reduce or manage any conflict and confrontation; for example, by not using inflammatory language.
  • Support and encourage families to put the best interests of any children first.
  • Act with honesty, integrity and objectivity.
  • Help clients understand and manage the potential long-term financial and emotional consequences of decisions.
  • Listen to and treat everyone with respect and without judgment.

By adhering to this Code, family lawyers can help clients reach outcomes that are fair, practical, and emotionally sustainable.

Why Good Divorce Matters

Divorce and separation are often among the most stressful experiences in a person’s life. A “good divorce” doesn’t mean the process will be easy. It means that both parties are supported to manage the legal and emotional aspects of separation in a way that minimises harm.

Conflict-heavy divorces can have lasting effects, especially on children. A collaborative approach can make communication more effective, reduce costs, and help families transition to a more stable future.

Good Divorce Week 2025 serves as an important reminder that the way we handle separation matters. Respectful negotiation can safeguard relationships, finances, and wellbeing long after the legal process ends. It is also a valuable opportunity to reflect on how family law can be practised with empathy and professionalism. By promoting Resolution’s Code of Practice, we can help ensure that every client receives advice and representation that prioritises understanding, fairness, and respect.
