Dr. Ann Olivarius Comments on Meta’s Removal of Ads for Virginia Woolf Adaptation

Dr Ann Olivarius KC (Hon) OBE has been featured in Cybernews commenting on Meta’s decision to block advertisements for a stage adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own after its automated systems flagged references to feminism and social reform.

The production, staged by Teatre Raval in Barcelona, encountered restrictions when attempting to advertise on Facebook and Instagram. Meta later said that the advertisements had been removed in error and restored them.

Commenting on the story, Ann drew attention to the contrast between restrictions placed on feminist content and continuing concerns about harmful content involving children on social media platforms:

Meta will helpfully protect us from the dangers of a feminist play from 1928, but not large-scale sexual trafficking of children in 2026.

Cybernews included Ann’s comments as part of its wider coverage of the incident and concerns surrounding harmful content on Meta’s platforms.
